Eye
Care For Children…
Since it is possible for your
child to have a serious vision problem without being aware
of it, your child should have his or her eyes screened
during regular pediatric appointments. Vision testing is
recommended for all children starting around 3 years of age.
If there is a family history of vision
problems or if your child appears to have any of the
following conditions speak to us promptly about when and how
often your child's eyes should be examined:
To ensure your child or teenager's eyes
remain healthy, he or she should have his or her eyes
screened every year.
Eye
Care For Seniors...
For aging adults with no signs or risk factors for
eye disease, it is recommended that you get a baseline eye
disease screening by age 40—the time when early signs of
disease and changes in vision may start to occur. Based on
the results of the initial screening, the necessary
intervals for follow-up exams will be determined.
For individuals at any age with
symptoms of or at risk for eye disease, such as those with a
family history of eye disease, diabetes or high blood
pressure, it is recommended that you see an eye care
specialist to determine how frequently your eyes should be
examined.
Seniors age 65 and over should have
complete eye exam every year to check for cataracts,
glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic
retinopathy and other eye conditions.
Eye
Exams...
It is recommended that you have an eye exam every 1
to 2 years depending on your age and medical history.
You may need to be seen more frequently due to certain risk
factors and medical conditions, but we’ll be glad to help
come up with the plan that’s right for you. As with all
medical care, early diagnosis and treatment can help with
your overall health.
In an eye exam, we’ll conduct a series
of tests to assess your acuity, refraction and potential for eye
disease. We’ll also ask you a series of questions about your
medical and eye health history, including any noticeable eye
problems. If you have any of the following: a family history
of eye problems, a
history of Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, or an eye injury, we’ll probably
recommend that you have your eyes examined more often.
Office
Lenses...
If you work at a computer for any length of time,
it's common to experience blurred vision or other problems
trying to read the computer screen. You're more likely to
experience eyestrain and eye fatigue while sitting at a
computer because of the unique visual demands reading a
computer screen places on your eyes.
What can you do? For one thing,
customized computer glasses can make a world of difference
in your comfort level while you're using the computer. These
special-purpose glasses are prescribed specifically to
reduce eyestrain and to give you the most comfortable vision
at your computer.
Contact
Lenses...
Contact lens technology is constantly changing and
The Eye Care Center of Bellport offers all of the most advanced
options to our patients. In addition to being more
comfortable to wear, manufacturers are now creating lenses
of advanced materials which can be ideal for those
suffering from dry eyes.
Whether you’re thinking about contact
lenses for cosmetic reasons or simply to correct your
vision, we will be glad to sit down and go over all of your
options so that you choose just the right contacts for you.
