The Bellport Bay Yacht Club in conjunction with the
Bellport Bay Sailing Foundation Inc., offers sailing lessons to all
resident youth ages six and older in the summer. The Bellport Bay Sailing Foundation
Inc. is a non-profit organization that operates at the Bellport Bay
Yacht Club. The Bellport Bay Yacht Club is located in the Marina.
Lessons accommodate all skill levels, from
beginners starting with basic seamanship, through advanced racers
looking to hone their skills with "go-fast" techniques and racing
tactics. Lessons are scheduled throughout the day, from Monday to
Thursday and begin in June. Beginner classes are generally held in the
mornings when the winds are the lightest. All classes are arranged
according to skill and age. All students MUST be able to swim.

Bellport’s Kids’ Camp
was created in 1993, starting with 116 children. It
has grown to over 250 campers participating each year. The Camp is open to
children of residents and non-residents who have completed kindergarten
up to and including graduating sixth graders. It is professionally
supervised and includes activities such as arts, crafts, games, sports,
beach trips, etc.
The activities
are varied and well received.
They include beach trips, arts and crafts, and introductions to tennis
and golf. There are field trips to the Bellport Fire Department,
Bellport/Brookhaven Historical Society and South Country Library.
Campers compete in special events including soccer circus,
pitch/hit/run, punt/pass/kick and Camp Olympics. Softball, touch
football and soccer are regularly scheduled activities with an
introduction to Lacrosse added last season. The oldest girls’ group
usually coordinates the Kids’ Camp Talent Show.
Additional special events
are added each year.
The
camp also has a C.I.T. (Counselor
in Training) program. Last season, the Kids’
Camp staff included several former C.I.T.
graduates. This program registers children that have completed seventh
grade but are not yet sixteen years old.
