About The SBAA

The South Bay Art Association was founded in 1956 to encourage the creation and appreciation of the visual arts. Their activities include monthly meetings with demonstrations, lectures, critiques, morning sketch groups, workshops in various media, exhibits, newsletters, and many other events. Many of the events are geared toward raising funds for the Scholarship Fund.

Anyone with a genuine interest in the visual arts is invited to join our Association. Dues are $25.00 a year for individuals, $35.00 for a family of two, and $20.00 for non-exhibiting individuals.

If you are interested in joining the SBAA, please print and fill out the membership form here.


Monthly Membership Meeting

The South Bay Art Association holds its Monthly Membership Meetings on Wednesday's in the Bellport Community Center, 4 Bell Street, Bellport. Click here for a map of the Community Center. Tuesday Morning Sketch Group / Plein Air Sketching

The South Bay Art Association holds a sketch group on Tuesday mornings during the school year (September through June) from 10am until about 12:30pm at the Community Center. Click here for a map of the Community Center. In the summer, the group moves outdoors to various locations (TBA) for plein air sketching. These sessions are open to all artists. It is a portrait group with a live model. A small fee will be collected to pay the model, and refreshments are available. For more info please call Lynn at 631-286-2642. *NOTE- The sketch group is usually cancelled in bad weather.

  • SBAA Member Sue Brooks has just published a book! "Look to the Sea" features inspirational words and original photos by Sue, and co-author Donna Lane, who share their love of the Ocean and the Beach with us in the pages of this little gem. Congratulations!

  • Congratulations to SBAA member Betty Wybenga on the publication of her book, "Turtleland." The artistry of nature displayed uniquely in color and markings by the Eastern Box Turtle and as observed by the Wybenga family, is recorded in word and illustration, for early listeners and readers, as well as all who appreciate this animal's ecological interaction with its habitat among us. For more info on Betty's exciting journey, contact bmwybenga@optonline.net.

  • Mary Bouzianis was accepted into the American Association of Botanical Artists. Congratulations Mary!

  • Sunday's Newsday L.I. Life Section, back page, a full page article on Colby Grace, one of our scholarship winners from last year, and also the recipient of the BNL award...... Colby has won a commission to create a sculpture for the Northport Veterans Sculpture Committee. Funds are now being raised to have the pieces cast in Bronze. The sculpture depicts a soldier writing a letter home, and then a separate sculpture depicts his wife reading the letter to their child. Congratulations Colby and keep up the good work! South Bay Art Association's 23rd Annual Student Art Show and Opening Reception

Annual Student Art Show2009 marked the SBAA's 23rd annual Student Art Show and Reception at the Bellport Village Community Center. Graduating seniors from participating high schools across Suffolk County will compete for scholarships and awards. This show usually attracts the most energetic and colorful artwork by the students- the work is consistently outstanding and worth a look!
