The South Bay Art Association was founded in 1956 to
encourage the creation and appreciation of the visual arts. Their
activities include monthly meetings with demonstrations, lectures,
critiques, morning sketch groups, workshops in various media, exhibits,
newsletters, and many other events. Many of the events are geared toward
raising funds for the Scholarship Fund.

Anyone with a genuine interest in the visual arts is invited to join our
Association. Dues are $25.00 a year for individuals, $35.00 for a family
of two, and $20.00 for non-exhibiting individuals.
If you are interested in joining the SBAA, please print and fill out
the membership form here.
The South Bay Art Association holds its
Monthly Membership Meetings on Wednesday's in the Bellport Community Center, 4 Bell Street, Bellport.

Tuesday Morning Sketch Group / Plein Air Sketching
The South Bay Art Association holds a
sketch group on Tuesday mornings during the school year (September
through June) from 10 am until about 12:30pm at the
Community Center. Click
here for a map of the Community Center. In the summer, the group moves outdoors to various
locations (TBA) for plein air sketching. These sessions are open to all artists. It is a portrait group
with a live model. A small fee will be collected to pay the model, and
refreshments are available. For more info please call Lynn at
631-286-2642. *NOTE- The sketch group is usually cancelled in bad
weather.

- Wow! Jeanne Salucci got the cover of Dan's Papers AGAIN! for her watercolor of autumn leaves......
- Br Gerard Cormier received the Gallery Choice Award (Best in Show) from the Phoenix Fine Arts Gallery show, "Windmills and Lighthouses" for his "Windmill Remnant", an acrylic painting rendered with Palette Knife technique. Congratulations Br. Cormier!
- Mike Maas and Ted Stamatelos have been very busy, with two exhibits coming up: Dec 4-Jan 4 at Ritter Image Gallery (151 S. Country Rd Bellport ) (Reception Dec 6 from 8:00pm-10:00pm) AND Nov 29- Dec 21 at deCordova Studio & Gallery (538 Main St, Greenport) , Reception Nov 29th 5 - 8 pm. Rosamaria Eisler will also be participating in the deCordova Studio exhibit.
- Bell St Artists will be having a show at the BAFFA Gallery, Nov 8 & 9, 15 & 16, 22 & 23, 29 & 30 from 1-4 pm. Reception Sunday Nov 9 1 - 4 at Gillette House, 47 Gilette Ave in Sayville, 589-7343.
- Several SBAA
members received awards in the open juried show sponsored by BAHC
(Brookhaven Arts & Humanities Council). Jeanne Rogers
received 1st place for her watercolor painting entitled "Blue
Anemones". Other award winners included: Mary Jane Stevens,
3rd Place, Watercolor; Murial Musarra, Honorable Mention,
Watercolor; Chris Taylor, 1st place, Mixed Media; Lilian
Masten, 3rd Place, Mixed Media; Wendy Hildreth Spence,
2nd Place, Pastel/Charcoal; Regina Stark, 2nd Place,
Printmaking. The juror was Kasia Pacanowska Wittie. The show will
run until November 13th. For more information, visit

Three other pieces by Jeanne Rogers were
accepted into the East Islip Arts Council open juried show at the
Bayard Cutting Arboretum held Oct 18 to Oct 26, with a reception Oct
26 1-4.
- SBAA Member "JUST"
John Filandro has passed away this week. John was a devoted
husband and father, a dedicated artist and one truly kind and
generous person. We will all miss him.
- Congratulations to
Rosamaria Eisler for winning BEST IN SHOW at the Brookhaven
Arts & Humanities Council Senior Show. Honorable Mentions went to
Laurie Fosmire and Muriel Musarra.
- Congratulations to
Carolyn Harrington on having one of her works accepted into
the American Impressionist Society's Juried Show.
- Congratulations to
Jeanne Salucci for making the Cover of Dan's Papers (Sept 5th
Issue). Way to go, Jeanne!
- Congratulations to
Muriel Musarra, for her BEST IN SHOW at the Brookhaven Arts &
Humanities Council's Small Stuff Show- Muriel also got a Third Place
in that Show. In BAHC'S The Art of Food Show, Muriel received an
Honorable Mention- she's a busy gal- keep up the good work Muriel!
South Bay Art Association's 22nd Annual Student Art Show and Opening
Reception
On Friday, November 21st from 7:30pm to 9:30pm The
SBAA will have their annual Student Art Show and Reception at the
Bellport Village Community Center. The show will continue on
Saturday, November 22nd from 10am to 5pm and on Sunday, November
23rd from 10am to 3pm. The winners of the Brookhaven National
Laboratory Award will be invited to exhibit at the Brookhaven
National Laboratory Art Show November 24th-26th.

Artists On The Lane Outdoor Art Show, July 4th
The
Annual "Artists On The Lane" Outdoor Art Show, presented by the South
Bay Art Association, was held on
Friday, July 4th on Bellport Lane. The weather was overcast on July 4th, but the rain held off and everyone
had a wonderful time. This is one of the largest outdoor art shows on Long
Island and draws artists from all over the country. The show is devoted
to fine art, displayed along the sidewalks of lovely Bellport Lane, all
the way down to the Bay. Click

51st Annual SBAA Members' Exhibit
The 51st Annual Member's Exhibit was held over Memorial Day
Weekend, May 24th-26th at the Bellport Community Center, 4 Bell St,
Bellport. This year's exhibit was dedicated to their Past
President, Jody Love. The award winners were
invited to display their work at the South Country Library in
Bellport for the month of June- in the Art Gallery.
