First Snow

For all you Bellport "Snowbirds" in Florida, California, and Arizona, we thought you'd enjoy seeing what you're missing. We hope you appreciate our being out there at 7:00am to take these photos for you!

After we first posted these photos, we received an email from Martha Phipps, a Bellport native who now lives in Texas. She had shared this terrific story with us:

"Thank you, thank you for the beautiful snow pictures of Bellport! Now I am really homesick…They certainly bring back many fond memories for me including the blizzard of 1955 (or ’56) which began one March evening while I was at a meeting at the Methodist Church with my parents. My Dad (I was 10 years old) had to drive down South Country with his window down just to see the road. Our car got stuck about a block from our home on Bieselin Road and we had to make a chain of people (my parents, my brother and myself) to get to our house. The wind was blowing about 40-50 and I thought I was going to perish in the snow. When we‘d left our home, it was clear. So I just had a light jacket and a dress on; when we finally got to our house, my legs were blue. And the next day we discovered that our car was up in the middle of our neighbor’s yard about four houses away as we’d become completely disoriented. What a memory!"
