Formerly known as the
Bellport Lions Club, the club was organized in 1949. The name was
subsequently changed to South Country Lions Club to better reflect the
communities it serves: East Patchogue, Bellport and Brookhaven.
The Lions Club’s primary purpose is service to the community. Members
believe that quality of life can be improved when people are willing to
work to make things happen. They reject apathy as a response to problems
and choose instead to work individually and together to provide health,
community, educational and international services. The Lions Club
strives to create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people
for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community
involvement and international cooperation.
Members only dinner meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each
month at Sunset Harbor, Colonial Lane, East Patchogue. Meetings start
at 7:00pm.
Some of the club’s recent events and charitable contributions include:
March: Cigar Dinner- Proceeds were used for purchase of a seeing eye
dog.
July: Golf Outing- Proceeds supported food baskets for needy families at
the holidays and scholarships for deserving Bellport High School
graduates.
