Why We’re No Longer Publishing Bellport Village Legal Notices...
For over five years now, Bellport.com has been publishing Bellport
Village Legal Notices as a free service to Bellport Village. Part of our
mission is to keep Bellport Village residents informed and we think we
provided an important service by making Village Legal Notices easy to find.
In fact, if you do a Google search on Bellport Legal Notices, there’s only
one pertinent response, Bellport.com.
Bellport.com has never turned a profit. Our wonderful advertisers help a
lot, but they only cover less than half of what it costs to keep
Bellport.com going. The rest is paid for out of our own pockets.
In the past, we’ve asked the Village to help out by paying a little for some
of our services that directly benefit Village residents. Village Hall’s
answer has been, “Why should we pay for something we’re getting for free?”
Two years ago, the Village asked us to bid on a contract to publish Bellport
Village Legal Notices. Even though we were the lowest bidder by far, the
Village awarded the contract to The Long Island Advance instead of
Bellport.com.
Recently, we were again asked by the Village what we would charge for
publishing Bellport Village Legal Notices. Even though the Village pays the
Advance approximately $3,600 a year for the service, and we gave them a bid
of around $1,100 for the year, the Village decided that they can’t afford to
pay us $1,100 for this service.
Well, the Village may not be able to afford the $1,100, but we can’t afford
to continue to provide the service for free. We feel the Village is forcing
us to do the wrong thing, but we don’t see an alternative. Effective
immediately, Bellport.com will no longer publish Bellport Village Legal
Notices. We will leave the past Legal Notices up on the site as a reference
for Village residents for now, but eventually we will be removing the Legal
Notices section from our site in its entirety.
We apologize to you, our readers, for having to take these actions, but if
Bellport.com is to survive, we can’t go on losing money year after year. We
hope you understand.
